Altas Horas - a duo CD that sounds like more
Shawn Grocott and Wolfgang Meyer have performed extensively together throughout their ten-year career. Nonetheless they continue to dig deeper into the music, to find a most honest expression, mixing groove and improvisation with chamber-music sensitivity. Consequentially, it was very important to them to bring these qualities to their debut recording. Early on, the decision was made to record live and in the presence of friends, and to create a comfortable and memorable environment for both musicians and audience.
The recording session for "Altas Horas" took place on four consecutive evenings on the site of an old factory, now the home of a shop selling fine wines and spirits. A glass of prosecco was served before the guests took their seats in the “studio” (normally the storage room, but visually and acoustically converted into more of a living room setting). The audience of approx. 25 was provided with headphones and was given the same sound-mix that the sound engineer mixed for himself.
At 8pm the mikes were turned on and the first set was played. After a short break (with some quiche and wine ;-) the second set followed. Most pieces were recorded once each evening with the intention of creating a product with very little cutting and splicing; complete takes played with the intent of getting a good one the first time. We had a wonderful time and are very happy with the results. We hope our audience will be, too!
